SWAN has made changes to the Circulation Map in Symphony to block non-public library cards from checking out via self-checkout machines at public libraries.
While patron library cards from SWAN Academic and Special libraries have always been blocked from checkout in Symphony WorkFlows, we have been unable to block them from checking out at self-check machines. This is because the connection between Symphony and the self-check software cannot see the setting that creates the block in WorkFlows.
The software does, however, consult the Circulation Map in Symphony to assign the correct circulation rule and due date when the item is scanned. Because of this, we were able to come up with a solution to this loophole.
The Circulation Map is read from the bottom up. We have shifted the sections of the Circulation Map for Morton Arboretum, National University of Health Sciences, and The Theosophical Society to the bottom of the map. This adjustment allows these libraries to retain the circulation settings they have chosen while preventing their patrons from checking out at any other library whether via WorkFlows or self-check.
