Notes
Crystal welcomed the newly elected or re-elected members of the working group and discussed the changes in format for meetings in 2025. All 2025 meetings for the group are online via Zoom but will not be recorded.
She discussed the new Charge and Focus for 2025 and the goals for the group. These include the Circulation Manager Mentor Program, scenario building, gathering training ideas, annual Online Course Review, consolidation of policies, and presenting “teachable moments” to the Circulation Networking Group.
She discussed the Mentor Program and how it has evolved from the previous year based on recommendations and feedback. For example, some mentors highlighted the value of in-person meetings with mentees because they expose suggestions for workflow that are hard to anticipate and address without witnessing in person. Members also talked about the length of the program, which is currently one year. Members and mentees can choose to end their meetings earlier than that, but because some programs are timed throughout the year – e.g., IPLAR, summer reading – there is value in defaulting to a one-year period.
Vickie discussed NCOA (National Change of Address) notes and recommendations for how to determine which patrons to purge. One member suggested removing PINs for users that have moved out of your service area instead of purging them to avoid the patrons losing checkout history and holds, especially for online resources.
