The Aspen 22.06 release is now live and indexing is complete. This release focused on major changes to record grouping that pave the way for better personalization options around language. In addition, it resolved some bugs around facet counts when selecting combinations for the Format Category, Format, and Availability facets.
We recommend that you check any staff lists based on language.
Separate grouped works for language
Prior to this release, Aspen grouped records for works in multiple languages together if they shared a common title, e.g. "Heidi," included both Spanish and English records.
Most works in multiple languages never grouped together, since they do not share a common title, e.g. "Love in the time of cholera" and "El amor en los tiempos del cólera".
Starting with this release, works with multiple languages will always group separately, which has several advantages:
- Using the Language facet will more clearly display titles in the preferred language.
- Summaries in search results will display in the record language when available.
- Staff creating browse categories and lists based on language can more clearly display these materials' titles and descriptions.
- Works in multiple languages will display consistency, instead of sometimes grouping and sometimes not.
Patrons that prefer to view the catalog in Spanish and see Spanish-language only materials can also personalize their preferences.
Search tips
- Using the Language facet is the best way to search for titles in English and find the languages available
- If searching by author, its best to do a keyword or author indexed search for the author name, then use the language facet vs. typing in a keyword search for "James Patterson Polish" for example.
Updates to lists
If you have created staff lists (or browse categories using lists) based on language, the grouped records on these lists may point to the English-language grouped record following this release. Titles using proper nouns are the most likely to be impacted. You may need to review your lists and add the grouped works pointing to the correct language.
