Notes
At today’s Circulation Working Group meeting, we covered a variety of topics:
Patron Point:
Scott discussed Patron Point. We just signed a contract with them to create library cards using online patron registration. This more robust tool will replace our existing Online Patron Registration Tool. Patron Point is being implemented SWAN-wide. Patrons will fill out a form and library service area will be automatically determined based on their supplied address. Libraries will be able to design a welcome letter that the user will then receive.
This group will be called upon to help answer some questions to further configure and build out the tool.
Best Practice Presentation:
Crystal discussed the Best Practices homework that the group completed. We would like to call on this group again to present some version of a Best Practice with the Circulation Networking Group. She asked for a volunteer and Melanie offered to present at the next Circulation Networking Group.
SWAN Expo 2025 Presentation:
We want this group to do some brainstorming about this year’s SWAN Expo. Members should be encouraged to think of potential topics they would like to present. Crystal discussed things we have done with this group in the past, such as a panel of “stump the chumps” to discuss workflows staff use that may benefit others.
The group then brainstormed a few ideas and will follow up more as homework.
Support Site Demo:
We’ve been looking at ways to expand the training checklists such as the Circulation Manager Checklist. We know that there will be some overlap across departments, so we are designing a tagging system in our support site to help make this more streamlined. Tara demonstrated this in its beginning stages and asked for feedback.
Crystal showed the existing Circulation Manager Checklist and discussed how we are thinking of evolving this great starting model into this new tagging system. The list refreshes when boxes are checked based on the roles assigned to the documentation.
New Manager Checklist Activity:
Crystal shared a Miro board organized with tasks assigned to new managers based on the homework this group completed.
Some bits of homework required for discussion and feedback to properly complete the activity, so Crystal helped walk the group through that process. We got some good feedback and did work in the Miro Board to organize roles and tasks into broader categories.
