Many libraries tag the items in their collection with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags.

If you have question regarding your RFID implementation, or are exploring RFID, we encourage posting a thread in the Technology section of the SWAN Forums.

Vendors

SWAN Member libraries interested in utilizing RFID technology can use just about any vendor, but to ensure maximum interoperability between other libraries we encourage the following tag format:

SWAN Standard RFID Configuration

Tag Format: 28560-2 / 15693
AFI Bit: 7

RFID tags that are 28560-2/15693 formatted with a security/AFI bit of 7 will be interoperable with 60% of SWAN libraries.

Request for Proposal (RFP)

SWAN Member libraries interested in contacting an RFID vendor to request a proposal for implementation can use this sample RFP [link available soon] as a starting point.
