Dear Libraries,
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season! Please submit topics for the upcoming year!
DVD BOXSETS
When patrons place holds on boxsets (especially TV series) they expect to receive the entire season, not disc 1 or any single disc. So, it’s worth the reminder that DVD Boxsets circulate with one barcode. This policy saves an enormous amount of time for everyone and ensures happy patrons and staff.
If you know that your library still has some boxsets that were split into individual discs, make this a resolution for the year, and combine the discs to circulate together.

Graphic Novels
Records for graphic novels can get very messy. Special attention must be given when cataloging these items.
How was this title cataloged before? Does the series appear on the 245 tag and 490/8xx tags?
Is there a subtitle, subseries, story arc? Please check if they were previously cataloged using subfields |p or |n.
Strive for consistency and how patrons search. For example, Thunder and Cluck is an authorized series, but the series was also added to the 245 tag to facilitate discovery:

Fixed Field
We tend to focus on the MARC tags of the bibliographic record and sometimes neglect the fixed field. However, information in this area is important for certain reports and some display in the public catalog.
Remember to enter the correct numeric or letter value indicating if the record has index, bibliographical references, and if it is a work of fiction or non-fiction (for pre-cats verify only the fiction/nonfiction value of the fixed field).
Coming up: Serials training 01/25, Pre-Cat training 02/03, Acq/Cat Users meeting 02/10. Register in L2.
