Many SWAN libraries have requested a limited or restricted user profile to assist their communities in offering library services to the housing insecure. A universal user profile, LIMITEDUSE, is available to ensure consistent services for these patrons.
LIMITEDUSE User Profile
This profile is available for all SWAN libraries to register patrons for limited use of library resources. The parameters of the profile include:
- 1 year expiration date
- Charge Limit = 5
- Hold Limit = 5
- Bill threshold = $10.00
Libraries may determine internally when and to whom these LIMITEDUSE cards will be issued. When issuing the card, follow Circulation Policy in collecting required demographics for library cards.
Circulation Rules & Reciprocal Borrowing
LIMITEDUSE cards are associated with the home library issuing the card. By default, circulation and hold policies will be applied as defined in your circulation/hold maps as specified for ALL users. If your policies grant access to material only for your patrons (e.g. XYZ_PATRON), these LIMITEDUSE patrons are not included and will be restricted.
If further restrictions are desired for this user profile (e.g. item type = EQUIPMENT), request that via a support ticket. These restrictions will be added to your circulation map with a rule of NONCIRC-Y, enabling staff override in special circumstances.
Guidelines
- Libraries choose whether or not they wish to issue these cards
- Library issuing the card is considered the home library
- Assign a library barcode matching library's sequence - these cardholders will have access to digital resources/e-content
- Cardholders are within-SWAN reciprocal borrowers throughout the consortium - cards are honored at any SWAN library
- Home library/card issuing library is responsible for losses between partner libraries, as with any registered card holder
