The 24.10 release of Aspen is live. This release includes:
Improved date display for OpenArchives
The dates display for OpenArchives results can be updated for a friendlier display. This is a setting that SWAN will enable for libraries using the OpenArchives integration, and you should see the update tomorrow.
Additional sort options in the app for Checked Out Titles
The SWAN Libraries + app now includes sort options in the Checked Out Titles screen, including sort by library account for linked accounts.
Future enhancements
This release lays the groundwork for several new features. These will require some additional testing, development, and/or discussion with SWAN user groups.
Library savings
A new feature in Aspen can tally the total item cost values and display in a patron's Checked Out Titles page and in their Checkout History page. In testing, SWAN found issues with this feature, and we will continue to test and work with Aspen developers. Once it is working as expected, we will bring to SWAN user groups for consideration and additional testing.
Purchase suggestion holds
This release added a new feature to the Aspen Purchase Suggestions system, which would allow library staff to place a hold for a purchased title through Aspen as part of the purchase suggestion workflow. SWAN staff also found issues with this feature, and we are continuing to test. If your library already uses the Aspen Purchase Suggestion system and you are interested in piloting this feature, reach out at help@swanlibraries.net.
Ability to set notice preference in Aspen
A new feature for Symphony libraries adds the ability to set notice preference in Aspen. SWAN will bring this feature to our user groups for discussion. As this feature currently works, users could select phone or email as a preference, but would have to set text notification (SMS) settings separately.
