Serial Control

Compilation of wizards that manage the receipt and status of a library's serial collection. Serial Control uses the following information to manage serials: title records, serial control records, prediction records, receipt records, claim records and routing records.

Serials Predictions

Predictions allow you to generate a list of upcoming issues for a serial. Prediction records can be modified or deleted.

MARC Holdings for Serials

MARC Holdings are meant to indicate to the public how many issues of a serial you retain and/or which issues you have recently received.  Maintaining MARC Holdings is optional and up to the library.

Enumeration & Chronology

The serial pattern is important for generating predictions and constructing call numbers for serial issues checked in.

Claiming Serials

You can configure Serial Control records to automatically create claims for late issues.  You can also create claims manually for a number of reasons, such as for damaged issues.

Routing Serials

Configure the Routing tab if you route newly arrived issues of a serial to staff members.

Transferring a Control Record

Use the Change Title Link Helper to break the link between a serial control record and its current title, allowing you to transfer it to a new title.

Removing a Control Record

If your library no longer subscribes to a title and would like to remove a control record from Symphony WorkFlows, use the instructions below to remove MARC Holdings, control records, and item records.  Item records and control records can be removed in any order, but MARC Holdings must be removed prior to removing a control.
