Magazines that use chronology ISS. number and YEAR

The following magazines use the chronology of issue number and year: Bicycling, Runner’s World, and Cosmopolitan.  

 

It has been our practice to sort the volumes by issue number, but this practice causes issues to display interfiled instead of displaying chronologically. See example below:

To circumvent this and going forward, we ask libraries to manually edit the call numbers to reflect year first followed by issue number.

You can continue generating predictions; however, call numbers will need to be modified to reflect YEAR + ISSUE NUMBER.

Important:

  • Do not “make up” information that does not appear on the source.  For example, if the magazine has only year and issue number DO NOT add month to the call number. This is confusing for patrons and libraries alike, and it is a disservice to the cleanliness of the catalog.
  • The correct abbreviation must be used with no space between the abbreviation ISS. and the number. For example: ISS.7
  • When you edit call numbers, verify the correct placement of the |z:
