Searching & Placing Holds on Serials

Holds on serial records are attached to specific volumes.  The serial call number determines what defines a volume.

Serial record call numbers consist of a base call number and a call number analytic. The analytic contains specific volume-level information and is important for the placing and filling of serial record holds.

When you place a hold on a serial title, Symphony assigns a call number analytic to that hold. Only items with that specific call number analytic can fill that hold. Punctuation, spacing, and case are all important. Call number construction for serial records must be consistent in order for holds to fill correctly.
