The Aspen 23.08 release is now live. This release includes the ability to create custom search facets and numerous bug fixes, most notably a fix to the issue that was preventing us from moving forward with displaying public item notes.
Custom search facets
This release comes with the ability to create custom search facets based on MARC data. These custom facets will search only our physical collection. Like public item notes, this is not a feature you will see enabled yet. Our Bibliographic Services team is experimenting with the configuration and brainstorming possible use cases. We will be working closely with our Cataloging and DUX Advisory groups to discuss ideas that will benefit patrons and staff.
Public item notes (update)
Please review last month's Aspen update news post for details on the public item notes feature: Aspen 23.07 Release. The bug mentioned in that post is now resolved, so we can confidently move forward with activating this feature.
Our Bibliographic Services team has sent lists of existing item notes to cataloging leads at our member libraries and has been assisting with cleanup. We will continue this work for the next three weeks and aim to enable this feature after Labor Day. If you have not examined a list of item notes that you have received, we encourage you to do so within that time.
