You have many options to customize your library's Aspen catalog. Most customization features require OPAC Admin permissions.
Adding Covers
In Aspen, you can add covers for grouped records that don't have automatically generated covers. Follow these guidelines when adding covers.
Browse Categories
Display materials and draw attention to special collections on your Aspen catalog. See Spotlights if you want to display materials on your library website.
Create and Publish Lists
You can create and share reading lists in your Aspen catalog. Staff with permissions to create Browse Categories and Spotlights can use lists to generate these features when you want more control than you can get with a search. Staff can also publish lists to appear in search results.
Patrons can create public lists to share via email or a link, but they cannot publish to the home page or set lists to appear in search results.
Spotlights
Embed a visual display of item covers in your website, using either pre-filtered search results or a public item list.
Placards
Use placards for programs, events, databases, and online learning tools that do not have MARC records or APIs for inclusion in the catalog. When a patron performs a search, any term that matches the trigger words of your placard will show up in results.
Configure Your Aspen Theme
You can change the look-and-feel of your Aspen catalog. You will need to have OPAC Administrator permissions to edit your catalog's theme. Your theme also includes area to add your logo, which will also appear in the Aspen LiDA app.
Library System & Locations Settings in Aspen
Through the Library Systems settings, you can update your library contact information and add important links to the menu in you catalog. Through the Locations settings, you can add your address and hours, which appear in Aspen and the Aspen LiDA app. If you have multiple branches, you can add specific information for each branch through Locations. Only staff with OPAC Administrator permissions have access to these settings.
eResources in Aspen
Your Aspen catalog supports the integration of most eBook and streaming platforms, as well as integration with the EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) to provide access to your articles and databases.
Open Archives
SWAN can add digital archive collections as a search feature to your catalog. History & Archives searching allows local history collections to be discoverable by patrons. Archives appear in the web catalog but not in the app.
