In-house created binge boxes - Recommended Practices
These are movies selected by your library and placed in one box to circulating as one item.
- When creating the bibliographic record, please select the MARCONLINE format policy found in the Control tab under the "Record format" drop-down menu.
- ISBNs and UPCs of individual movies should be preceded by |z to prevent Acquisitions processes from attaching single items to binge boxes. However, it is not a requirement to add the UPC or ISBN to binge boxes.
- Add as many variant titles as needed. We recommend adding a variant title with your library name. Remember to keep consistency with the naming convention for all your in-house created binge boxes.
- The titles included in the binge box should be listed in the 505 tag, preceded by |t.
- Do not use multiple 245 tags to list the titles.
- If you would like to include the year or length of each movie, the information should be entered right after each title in the 505 tag, preceded by |g(year between parenthesis). For example: |g(2013) or the length: |g(140 min.). If adding the year and length, see example below.
- The correct 590 terminology applies. For example: 590 DVD or 590 BLU-RAY.
Below is a recommended naming convention for the in-house binge boxes:

Binge boxes purchased from Midwest Tape (Pre-Cats)
These are collections of movies purchased together in one DVD box. As a published, commercially-available collection, each of these boxes should have only one bibliographic record shared by all libraries. Do not create a separate record for your library’s copy.
- If it contains a UPC that is unique to the binge box, do not include subfield |z in front of it. If individual films have their own UPC, include these with a subfield |z.
- Enter the UPC in the 024 tag with second indicator 8.
- The title should be as it appears on the source (do not add your library’s initials).
- Titles included in the binge box should be listed in the 505 tag, preceded by |t.
- The correct 590 terminology applies. For example: 590 DVD or 590 BLU-RAY.
- Please enter a 591 note that states: “Item purchased from Midwest Tape.”
- These records will be overlaid by full OCLC records.
