SWAN has created a restricted user profile to assist libraries that want to offer library services to the housing insecure. A universal user profile, LIMITEDUSE, is available to ensure consistent services for these patrons.
LIMITEDUSE User Profile
This profile is available for all SWAN libraries to register patrons for limited library resources. The parameters of the profile include:
- 1-year expiration date
- Charge Limit = 5
- Hold Limit = 5
- Bill threshold = $10.00
It is up to the individual library when and to whom these LIMTEDUSE cards will be used. When issuing the card, follow the Circulation Policy in collecting the required demographic information for library cards.
Circulation Rules & Reciprocal Borrowing
LIMTEDUSE cards will be associated with the library issuing the card. By default, circulation and hold policies will be applied as defined in your circulation and hold maps as specified for ALL users. For example, if your policies grant access to the material only for your patron (XYZ_PATRON), these LIMITEDUSE patrons are not included and will be restricted.
If you need further restrictions for this profile, request that via a support ticket. The restrictions will be added to your circulation map with a rule of NONCIRC-Y, which staff can override in special circumstances.
Guidelines
- Libraries choose if they want to issue these cards
- The library issuing the cards is considered the home library
- Assign a library barcode matching the library's sequence-these cardholders will have access to digital resources
- Cards will be honored at any SWAN library
- The home library/issuing library is responsible for losses between partner libraries.
