Patron Last Activity Date

This page outlines the Symphony functions that update the Last Activity Date in a patron record.

Significance of Last Activity Date

Aside from serving as a quick reference indicator of when a patron last used the library, the Last Activity Date is a key factor in the Monthly Patron Record Purge, which keeps the patron database clean. Patrons with a Last Activity date of greater than five years in the past will be candidates for record removal each month. See our Monthly Patron Record Purge documentation for more details.

Updating Last Activity Date

A patron's Last Activity Date updates to the current date when any of the following take place:

  • Checking out an item
  • Checking in an item

  • Editing a hold
  • Marking an item lost
  • Billing a user

These activities will update a patron's Last Activity Date when initiated through the staff clients (Workflows and BLUEcloud Circulation) or in Aspen when used by the patron or by staff via Masquerade mode.
